This feature directorial début is a lively and inventive coming of age tale that heralds the latest addition to the Cuarón filmmaking family. The director took a year’s worth of his personal photographs and assembled them into a fictitious narrative, with voiceover dialogue provided by the photos’ subjects. Molly (Harper) is an American university student who spends a summer studying in Mexico City then returns later to lodge with a local family. 14-year-old Diego (Catano of TEMPORADA DE PATOS) has sex on the brain, and the arrival of the sexy, older gringa spurs him into action as a teenage seducer. AÑO UÑA is sweet, comic and touching.
