Welcome to the 16th edition of ¡Viva! Spanish and Latin American Film Festival and another year of excellent cinema from across the Spanish-speaking world. This year we have extended the dates of the festival and dedicated the whole of March to ¡Viva! which we hope will allow you to catch all the films you really want to see, and to discover some hidden gems along the way. Just a few of our festival delights on offer include: Uruguayan comedy Mal día para pescar; Spanish family drama La vergüenza; Catalan coming-of-age tale Little Indi and guest appearances from award-winning writer-director Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón and short filmmaker Luis Arambilet.
We are also really excited to extend ¡Viva! into our galleries for the first time as we welcome internationally acclaimed Mexican artist Carlos Amorales to Manchester for a solo show of his work.
We look forward to seeing you there! ¡Disfrutad el festival!
Please note that all festival screenings do not feature adverts and trailers. Film screenings will start at their advertised times.
Unfortunately, Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón has had to cancel his attendance for the planned post-screening Q&A to accompany La mitad del cielo. The screening of this classic Spanish film will go ahead on Thu 25 March at 18:00 as scheduled.
The second of our study guide, this time for AS Spanish students and teachers is available to download now.
The ¡Viva! opening screening of Solo Quiero Caminar on Sat 6 March 19:00 has now sold out. Returns will be available from 18:45 on the day from our Box Office. But don't despair, we are also showing it on Monday 8 March at 20:10
The first of our regular ¡Viva! Study Guide is now available to download. A great ressource for teachers and students , Study Guides contain background on the film, ideas for exercise and further resources.
